Many of us fight and tussle with a number of doctrines that relate to the Character of God, His glory, and power. The biggest of these fights is the Doctrine of Predestination & Election.
Over the years, many arguments have been made for and against this Doctrine, from the early days of the church till now. Truth is, we would have never had the courage to think, let alone talk about this doctrine, if it were not taught clearly in the Bible. That is what has many Christians in a bun, it’s because they cannot reconcile this doctrine in their hearts with there believe of God
Now, I like getting straight to the point. Here it is. All Christians should be in agreement with the Doctrine of Predestination & Election. There are many reasons why, but we will only mention the core few.
Number one, Predestination is not a doctrine meant to cause fear among believers; rather, it is a doctrine meant to give us assurance. Why Am I A Christian? Will I ever be forsaken? Who loved me first? All these questions are answered through the Doctrine very well, as well as in the Bible in its entirety. This is not a Doctrine that causes separation, but rather unites the body of Christ to one purpose, under one commander, with eternal love, with eternal selection, and unmerited Grace.
Number two, THE BIBLE TEACHES IT VERY BLATANTLY. This is not a Doctrine that was invented in the Council of Nicea or Trent. This is a Doctrine that came out of the mouth of Jesus Christ in John 6:39 and Apostle Paul in Romans 8:29. After Paul makes his Dictation on the matter, he finishes by asking a rhetorical question in Romans 9:14, “Is God Unjust?” “Not at all.”
You see, what makes many fight with this doctrine is not because they don’t want God to be sovereign over their lives, but because many of them just can’t reconcile a just God choosing some and punishing others. The truth is, God gives mercy to some and Justice to others; He never gives injustice to anyone. The other thing to this is, many are now resorting to diminishing the foreknowledge of God just so that God is not the bad person sending people to hell, but rather God has limited his knowledge for our sake so that we have a free will that is more sovereign than the sovereignty of God. This is completely wrong and anti-Christian at the core.
Predestination is not just a Doctrine about God choosing some and leaving others it is a Doctrine that showcases the eternal undeserved mercy of God to a fallen creation In that God from all eternity did, by the most wise and holy counsel of his own will, freely and unchangeably ordain whatsoever comes to pass; yet so as thereby neither is God the author of sin, nor is violence offered to the will of the creatures, nor is the liberty or contingency of second causes taken away, but rather established. “Westminster Confession Of Faith Chapter 3”
