Verse Annotation
Verse 1 - 6 - Jesus Christ is our perfect high priest, serving as our mediator appointed by God. He is the one who built everything. Even though Moses served God faithfully, he served as a servant in the house, but now we have salvation not through a servant alone but through the one who is in charge of God’s entire house
Verse 7 - Our response to the invitation of God should not be a hardening or seclusion from the things of the Kingdom, rather, through prayer and discipline our response should be an eagerness for more and more of the Spirit and revelations of Our God, in order that our eternal purposes, those things revealed to us by God may be informed, relevant and renewed through the newness of God
Verse 12 - 15 Let us watch each other’s back, let none of us stumble in isolation, let none of us continue in sin without a brother or sister calling them back to a faithful and biblical walk with God
Verse 16 - 19 - Our proximity or Knowledge of the things of the Kingdom does not make us impervious to temptation or sin. We must at all times be on alert not to give the devil a foothold. These same gaps will open ever so wide that we who were on our way to God’s rest become rejected due to our developed love of sin and hardened hearts towards God
Reflection
Our walk with God can be filled with ups and downs. We might have days when we feel really close to Him, and days we feel like we are worlds apart. It is important to keep in mind that, regardless of the things we know, regardless of the things we’ve observed, regardless of the things we’ve experienced, we can never put our walk with God on an automatic engine. This has to be very intentional and Consistent. The daily practices and routines of life easily lead even the most devoted Christians astray. We cannot assume that because we have been Christians for a certain number of years, we’ve become invisible to temptation and sin. This could never be far from the truth; the more we know of God, the more we become aware of our sin. Our sensitivity to sin never goes down it just increases as we continually walk in purity.
The Israelites saw the vivid, naked, and blatant hand of God in their lives; they experienced miracles firsthand as eyewitnesses. These same people turned their backs on God multiple times. Not because God wasn’t enough, but because of their sinful nature that, through lack of self-control, made itself known. Let us not forget that God is not obligated to let anyone into His rest, but through grace and mercy, He makes a way for some to enter this rest. If we are saved and have the Holy Spirit, let us not trivialize the things of the Kingdom, but instead, out of appreciation and a heart of thanksgiving and reverence to our savior, we put on our Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh to fulfill its desires
Prayer
Dear God, renew our hearts, renew our minds, renew our understanding of the things of the kingdom. Remove any complacent behaviors in our walk with you. May we always appreciate what you’ve done for us and never forget that we are privileged to call you Father.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen
