Verse Annotation
Verse 1 - 5 - We who believe have been called and promised entry into God’s rest. A resting place that has been there since the beginning of creation; God’s resting place.
Verse 6 - 7 - Through Jesus Christ, we who believe can enter God’s rest in this new covenant. We must keep watch not to act in dissonance to God’s commands, for that is the same reason many failed to enter God’s rest, the many who already heard the message.
Verse 12 - 13 - The word of God reveals our innermost inclinations, desires, thoughts, habits, compromises, and patterns. Even as these things become revealed, let us not double down in sin, but instead may we cast our weaknesses unto the Lord for He will sustain us and renew us, He will not allow the righteous “through Jesus Christ to be shaken”. Ultimately, we are all accountable to Him.
Verse 14 - 16 - We have a schematic, a line to follow, an example already set in Jesus Christ, who was tempted externally in every way but did not sin, the same power that was in Christ is now in US in its totality without partiality. We who the Son has set free are free indeed. With this in mind, we boldly approach the throne of our creator, who will give us mercy and grace. Hallelujah!!
Reflection
The human inclination to the revelation of sin is to run from it or to try at all costs to protect you self image my double down on it. No one wants to appear imperfect, even if that means recanting a statement you made that was wrong. This is why many of us struggle with being corrected or being reprimanded. The more we read the word of God, the more we know who we are and who we are not. Our impurities don’t show up by accident but are revealed to us by God himself so that we may grow, seek to be better, and progress further in our walk of purity. Let us not harden our hearts when God reveals to us a part of our life that needs to either go or be fixed. This does not mean that God hates you and doesn’t want you to be your authentic self; rather, this means that your authentic self has been shackled behind the curtains of the prejudices and compromises of society, pragmatism at its finest
This is definitely not an easy process, but we have one who has conquered sin and did not fall on any count, one who lived a perfect life so that we can live perfect lives through the imputation of the same. His name is Jesus Christ, we have our road set ahead, and we know the path to follow, so let us walk in it. Isaiah echoes the same mantra this is the way, walk in it. Let us put down our prejudice and societal norms, our unbiblical secular and cultural beliefs, and walk in Obedience with Jesus Christ, in the same Holy Spirit that lives in us. Romans 13:13-14 “… Let us put on Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh to fulfill its desires thereof
Prayer
Our Heavenly Father, continue to reveal to us what you want us to work on in our lives, may we become ever more like you Jesus Christ. Give us the strength to change or throw out the necessary and to embrace and hold firmly to the truth you reveal to us,
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen
