Verse Annotation
Verse 1 - 7 - Let us not live in a manner of self-exaltation, let us care for our weak brethren and neighbors. Not seeking to feel good and please ourselves, but let us please others through sacrifice and scriptural guidance. Not out of self-pleasure but death to self. Just as Jesus Christ lived and died for us.
Verse 8 - Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the promise given in Genesis 3:15, Not WOMEN nor MEN, but Jesus Christ. For one to claim the promise given in Genesis 3:15 as their own functioning is akin to blasphemy and trying to take the place of Jesus Christ. This should bring us to awe and joy; we are seeing the working of the Lord from the fall of man through many generations, prophesying the coming and work of Jesus Christ. The entire Old Testament is pointing to Jesus Christ. Taking us through the workings of God in the lives of the ancestors, relatives (as well as those in proximity), of Jesus Christ. This is such a blessing that God worked the plan of salvation from day one of the fall. That is how much He loves and cares for us.
Verse 9 - 13 - Christianity is not only for the visible church but also for those around us who do not know Christ. We ought not to live in a bubble but share the Gospel ( The good news of Jesus Christ, His life, death, and resurrection, that all might live and have access to the Father through Him and only Him)
Verse 14 - 21 - Not only are we supposed to share our faith with non-believers, but through action and words, we share our faith. Exalting ourselves in nothing, in no thing but taking joy in the work of Christ through our lives. We are called to daily submission to His will; sharing and counseling as guided by the Holy Spirit.
Verse 30 - Prayer for each other is important, not only does it increase our faith in God but also spurs our hearts in love for each other.
Reflection
It is a serious blessing to us and to the entire world that Jesus Christ came to die for all our iniquities. Paul reminds us that the coming of Christ wasn’t an accident, but rather it was prophesied by numerous people, with the first prophecy beginning in Genesis chapter 3. Here we see God telling Eve that her seed in the male category ( the Bible uses “Him”) will crush the serpent. I have heard many preachers and some self-proclaimed apostles and prophets talk about Genesis 3 in a way that can only be explained as blasphemy. There is nowhere in Genesis 3 where God says, and the woman will crush the head of the serpent. This has been a false rhetoric in the current Christian church, and I would say to the document of true biblical understanding of God’s faithfulness. It doesn’t take long to figure out who the promise being given in Genesis 3:15 is about. Number one, we see the Bible using the term “Him”, definitely not referring to a woman. The surprising thing is it is also not referring to men, but rather to Jesus Christ and this is what Paul reminds us of not only should this make us bow down and our niece and say thank you God, but this she’ll fill us with confidence to cast all our cares under God and trust him with our life, especially seeing that he had walked salvation from the first day of the fall prophesying of the coming of Jesus Christ
Paul then goes on to request the charge to pray for him, and this is important. None of us is called to leave a Christian life in isolation. Yes, our relationship with God has to be personal and intentional, but the living and carrying out of the Christian life must be done in community. The devil attacks the sheep that is not in the herd. We remember Baalam after finding out he couldn’t curse the Israelites, decided to lure them out by setting up prostitute dens outside of the camp of the Israelites, just so they would leave the protection of the kingdom of God and be consumed by sin. Let us pray for each other and spur each other into the fire of the Holy Spirit and into the advancement of the kingdom, growing each day in our knowledge of God and in our love for him, making sure that our brothers and sisters are not left behind lacking, but rather, increasing in wisdom and stature just as it was said of Jesus Christ
Prayer
Thank you God, for the fulfilled promise of Jesus Christ. We thank you that we can leave now in axis to you. Thank you God for surrounding us with your presence and protection, and for putting people around us who inspire us in spared us to grow deeper into the things of the kingdom to know you more and to walk in holiness and righteousness, with no compromise we pray Jesus that you may give us the strength to choose you in everything we do that we may not be glued out by Temptations that we may not lured out by the attacks of the world, the enemy or even our flesh. We trust you, God, and we cast all our cares on you, knowing that you’re faithful to fulfill every promise you give, just as you fulfilled the promise of Jesus Christ.
In Jesus Christ’s mighty name I pray, Amen.
