Verse Annotation

Verse 1 - 3 - The wicked do not self-exist with their wickedness but desire to share it through schemes set to capture those who are weak. Spiritual cognition is fundamental; we can’t be found lacking. God is our constant strength; we ought to walk according to this authority and source. Let us not rely on our own ability but on the power we have been granted through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit in us.

Verse 4 - 11 - Pride is a dangerous self-pleasure. Not only does it make one think they are who they are not, but it sets them on an endeavor to take God out of their thoughts. This is where most of the 21st century is, as it has wholeheartedly embraced pragmatism and secularism in its pure form. It gives one a false sense of safety, thinking God will not judge you because “HE” does not exist in your mind. There is no difference between this act of cognitive desertion and the ostrich putting its head under a rock, thinking that because it can’t see the predator, the predator can’t see it. This is utterly sad and truly a cry for help.

Verse 11 - 15 - The Lord sees all, including the acts the wicked do in secrecy and darkness. He will protect His children and take away the ability to operate from the wicked by breaking their arms.

Verse 16 - 18 - Not only does God come to help his children, but He also encourages them. He hears our prayers to the last letter.

Reflection

One of the most dangerous things that has happened in the 21st century is the propagation of pragmatism. It has been advertised at our workplaces, at our schools, at our homes, and sadly, at our churches. This false notion and heightened importance of the now, bearing no thought of its effect on tomorrow, has led to some of the most foolish decisions made internationally. Some of these decisions caused great wars and strife among nations and communities. We cannot adopt this notion into our minds. This should never be the norm.

Our decision-making should not be motivated by the pleasure and resolve of the now, but rather by the fulfillment of God’s purposes and commandments in our lives. These purposes and commandments are already eternal by definition. Let us not try to walk in the spirit by reasoning in the flesh. Our spirit should always inform our bodies, not the other way around. If we start operating in the inverse, we open doors for things like pride, which ultimately desires “ME” at the top, even if it includes the absence of God. We will not walk in that patter rather, we walk in the spirit under the guidance of God through the Bible and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We have to undertake this daily.

PRAYER

Our Heavenly Father, we thank you for your providence and protection, your grace and mercies, guidance and authority over our lives. We pray that you may remove from us any form of pride that is not from you, cleanse our hearts, Lord. Help us to live and think in relation to eternity and not succumb to the rush of fleeting self-pleasure.

In Jesus name, Amen
