Verse Annotation
Verse 1 - 4 - We serve and worship a God who hears the prayers of His children. He doesn’t forsake us in our distress but rather gives us relief. We, the body of Christ, have been intentionally selected by God.
Verse 5 - We do not determine how God wants to be worshiped; rather, God determines how He wants to be worshiped. The sacrifices we offer should be according to what He has told us to offer and not our own emotions or trying to impress others
Verse 6 - 7 - God gives us unfathomable Joy and peace through our obedience to His will, our continuous seeking, and our yearning to know more about the Kingdom.
Verse 8 - Worry not of the past, today, or tomorrow, for we rest in the arms of the Lord, Lord Almighty, God is our Chief cornerstone, our pillar and anchor. With him, we can sleep in safety
Reflection
How many times have you caught yourself praying into your own desires? It is very common for our flesh to try to take priority, especially in our relationship with God. Many of us have caught ourselves offering the wrong sacrifices unto God. The Bible gives us a guideline on how we are to offer an appropriate sacrifice to God. We are called to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice to God. This means that everything we do with our bodies matters to God. There is no morally insignificant activity when it comes to how we treat our bodies.
We have to walk in the authority and awareness that we did not commission ourselves into Christianity; God reached out to us first and worked in our hearts through grace. We have to walk in the full armour of the spirit, putting on Jesus Christ just as we are commanded in Romans 13:13-14. In this way, our bodies will become a living sacrifice unto God.
PRAYER
Thank you Jesus for your grace and mercy. We pray that God, you may renew our minds that we may correct every pattern of self-indulgence and self-pleasure that is not from you. We pray that you may remove all habits from our lives that do not honor you. Purify our hands to build and Kingdom in the kingdom, purify our mouths and lips to edify, speak in love, and to declare your will. Give us the strength to do all that you have commanded us to do.
In Jesus name, Amen
