Verse Annotation
Verse 1 - The whole earth declares the glory of God, nature shouts his name, He is great and mighty, He is the one who called existence into being. Mighty is our God (1 Samuel 2:2)
Verse 2 - God is so manifest that even seemingly small objects shout and declare his glory and power
Verse 3 - 5 - Who are we that we are given such honor and favour? The Bible clearly tells us that those now apart from Christ are slaves to sin. This is such great news, we have been graced not only with salvation but also with value at creation. We have been made the object of regard by THE Creator who created the heavens, the moons, and stars.
Verse 6 - 8 - In Genesis, we see man given dominion over God’s creation. Even after the fall, we retained a certain amount of this dominion. The consistent thing before and after the fall is that our dignity and value have always been defined by our creator, who gave us our purpose. If you take God out of the equation of man, man no longer has his inherent worth or dignity. The creature does not define itself, nor does it give itself inherent values; the creator does. In order for a creature to give itself inherent values and worth, it would have had to exist before it existed. That clearly violates the law of contradiction. Something cannot be and not be at the same time. Much of the anguish going on in the hearts of many today stems from a lack of purpose, worth, and dignity. This comes from God, and man cannot self-grant these attributes.
Verse 9 - Our God is truly mighty, sovereign, and powerful; no one can compare to Him. His creation shouts his name, our hearts yearn for Him ( eternal purpose, worth & dignity). His name is great in all the earth. His name commands movement. He is the all-powerful one
Reflection
Dignity, self-worth, purpose, and identity. These things have definitely become normal in discussions and interactions in the 21st century. One thing that I want to make clear is that the creator defines the end. the middle and the beginning. He gives purpose to the creation. The main things ailing the world right now can be boiled down to a lack of eternal purpose, inherent worth, and dignity. We’ve seen war happen, and the lives of millions of people have been taken just because a few people have decided that the lives of a certain community no longer matter. Given the opportunity, man cannot define his purpose by himself. Man cannot grant himself inherent worth or dignity; all this can only come from God.
It’s important to understand that once the creature departs from its creator, it does not gain independence, but rather loses its meaning; there’s no reason for it to exist, and that’s where many find themselves. Removing God from all discussions in our ways of life doesn’t give us freedom; rather, it takes away our purpose, worth, and dignity because all these things are found by the creator, God. The secular world will always try to propagate the notion that freedom comes from independence from God, but rather, I suggest that independence from God is dependence to the world.
PRAYER
Thank you, God for your love, favor, and Grace. We pray that you may always draw us closer to you that we may not depart from you or depart from your presence that we will not accept the lies of the world to seek independence from you, but rather that we desire, you desire to please you and desire to walk and work with you, our God, our creator, and our master.
In Jesus name, Amen
